21. Familial breast cancer : risk populations and their surveillance
Sammanfattning : Women carrying mutations in either BRCA 1 or BRCA2 have a lifetime risk of breast cancer of 80%. As little is known about the risk of other malignancies, apart from ovarian/tubal cancer in mutation carriers, the importance of other malignancies in a family with several cases of breast cancer is hard to evaluate. 22. Mortality Risk, Moral Hazard, and Mental Health: Essays in Applied Microeconomics
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of three self-contained chapters.“Dying and dissaving” analyses how individuals change saving behavior in response to new information about their expected lifetime. The author uses Swedish administrative data to link negative health shocks to subsequent saving behavior. LÄS MER
23. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer
Sammanfattning : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected. 24. Acetabular Revisions. Risk Factors and Prediction of Re-revision
Sammanfattning : Hip replacement is a successful intervention when treating patients with hip osteoarthritis. Approximately 10% of all patients undergoing primary hip replacement surgery require further surgical interventions (revisions) during their lifetime. Acetabular component (cup) failure is the most common reason for a revision. LÄS MER
25. Out-of-field doses from proton therapy and doses from CBCT imaging : Risk of radiation-induced second cancer from modern radiotherapy
Sammanfattning : The use of ionizing radiation for treatment of cancer diseases is continuously increasing as patient survival is improving and new treatment techniques are emerging. While this development is beneficial for curing primary tumors, concerns have been raised regarding the unwanted dose contribution to healthy tissues of patients and the associated risk of radiation-induced second cancer (RISC).
