  1. 6. Blood Flow Regulation and Inflammatory Response in Experimental Models of Diabetes

    Författare :Ulrika Pettersson; Mia Phillipson; Leif Jansson; Johanna Henriksnäs; Mikael Rydén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islets; beta-cells; pancreas; inflammation; obesity; adipose tissue; rats; mice; leukocytes; beta3-adrenoceptors; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is caused by defect pancreatic islet β-cells together with peripheral insulin resistance. The disease is often accompanied by obesity with associated low-grade visceral adipose tissue inflammation, which contributes to insulin resistance. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Leukocytes and Coronary Artery Disease : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Eva Lindmark; Peter Kierulf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Tissue factor; monocytes; platelets; cytokines; endothelial cells; unstable coronary artery disease; coagulation; inflammation; biochemical markers; IL-6; risk stratification; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Tissue factor (TF) is the initiator of the coagulation cascade. Monocytes do not normally express TF, but can be induced to do so by certain stimuli. Aberrant TF expression is important in the thrombotic complications of bacterial sepsis, certain malignancies and coronary artery disease (CAD). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Investigation of Incompatibility Reactions Caused by Biomaterials in Contact with Whole Blood Using a New in vitro Model

    Författare :Jaan Hong; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; biomaterials; coagulation; complement; heparin; leukocytes; platelets; PVC; titanium; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a new in vitro slide chamber model that makes it possible to conduct studies of molecular and cellular interactions between whole blood and biomaterials. The model proved to be a suitable tool for detection of cell and platelet binding to a biomaterial surface. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Pulmonary Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

    Författare :Anna Börjesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reperfusion injury; intestinal ischemia; pulmonary injury; endothelium; cytokines; alveolar fluid clearance; leukocytes; orthopaedics; Surgery; traumatology; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is a potentially life-threatening condition, sometimes leading to a systemic inflammatory response and the potential development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of intestinal I/R on pulmonary function with special emphasis on removal of excess alveolar fluid, pulmonary endothelial barrier permeability, leukocyte accumulation and function, and possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of pulmonary injury following intestinal I/R. 5. 10. Cytokines and immune balance in preeclampsia : a survey of some immunological variables and methods in the study of preeclampsia

    Författare :Yvonne Jonsson; Christina Ekerfelt; Göran Berg; Leif Matthiesen; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preeclampsia; Cytokines; Leukocytes; Immunology; Placenta; Th1 Th2 balance; Inflammation; Immunobiology; Immunbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is one of the most feared pregnancy complications, with a risk of maternal and fetal death and with no ideal therapy readily available. The cause of this strictly pregnancyrelated disease is still unknown and is therefore a great challenge to all researchers in the field of pregnancy-related pathophysiology. LÄS MER
