  1. 21. Human leukocyte antigen in sickness and in health : Ankylosing spondylitis and HLA in Sweden

    Författare :Jessika Nordin; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Jennifer Meadows; Matthew Webster; Alison Meynert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Disease genetics; Ankylosing spondylitis; HLA typing; Imputation; Inference; Sex-stratified; HLA-B*27 independent; Association tests; Functional validation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) plays a major role in keeping us healthy, but some of the HLA alleles can contribute to disease susceptibility. One example is HLA-B*27, which confers increased susceptibility of ankylosing spondylitis and represents one of the strongest genetic associations found in any common human disease. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Platelet and leukocyte activation, and platelet-leukocyte cross-talk : mechanistic aspects with special reference to diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Hu Hu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Platelet-leukocyte cross-talk modulates platelet and leukocyte function, and appears to be important in thrombosis and haemostasis. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with platelet and leukocyte dysfunction and an increased risk of cardiovascular complications. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Mechanisms for leukocyte-mediated adjustment of endothelial barrier function

    Författare :Narinder Gautam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Inflammation; leukocyte extravasation; endothelial cells; vascular permeability; plasma leakage integrin signaling; heparin binding protein; contact phase; bradykinin.;

    Sammanfattning : Extravasation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) and associated plasma exsudation are key events in the inflammatory process. The mechanism by which activated PMN may induce increased vascular permeability for macromolecules is not fully understood but crucially dependent on an intact leukocytic beta2 integrin (CD11/CD18) adhesion receptor function. 4. 24. In vivo imaging of leukocyte-endothelium interactions in septic lung injury

    Författare :Jonas Roller; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :Sepsis; Acute lung injury; Leukocyte recruitment; Intravital fluorescence microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive accumulation of leukocytes in the lung represents a key feature in the development of an acute lung injury (ALI). Numerous studies demonstrated that leukocyte rolling is a compulsory precondition for the firm adhesion in organs. However, it seems that the recruitment process of leukocytes in the lung is more complex. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Leukocyte activation in newborns in relation to prenatal stress

    Författare :Elham Yektaei-Karin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this project is to describe the pattern of innate immunity responses at birth with focus on the recruitment of leukocytes such as eosinophils and neutrophils and their content of cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide LL-37 associated to different degrees of fetal stress and delivery modes. We know that delivery is associated to fetal stress including release of cortisol and cathecolamines. LÄS MER
