  1. 1. PET studies on the immune cell marker TSPO in first episode psychosis patients

    Författare :Karin Collste; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Several lines of evidence are indicative of a role for immune activation in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Nevertheless, studies using positron emission tomography (PET) and radioligands for the translocator protein (TSPO), a marker for glial activation, have yielded inconsistent results. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Water, hyaluronan and surface shape in corneal wound healing after excimer surgery : experimental studies

    Författare :Beat A Weber; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :photorefractive keratectomy; excimer laser; rabbit; cornea; wound healing; microradiography; hyaluronan; planimetry; leukocyte protein marker; haze; regression; surface irregularities; subepithelial deposits; remodeling; epithelial hyperplasia; corticosteroids;

    Sammanfattning : Excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) has evolved to a widely performed procedure. The excimer laser corrects refractive ametropias by removing a calculated amount of anterior corneal stroma with great precision and with minimal damage to the adjacent tissues. The correction of myopia up to -5. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fecal calprotectin in children with special reference to inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Ulrika Lorentzon Fagerberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Biological markers; calcium-binding proteins; Leukocyte L1 Antigen Complex; calprotectin; acute- phase proteins; serum amyloid A; C-reactive protein; ELISA; feces; blood; children; adolescent; colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; colonoscopy; reference values; diagnosis.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the clinical usefulness of fecal calprotectin as a noninvasive marker of colonic inflammation in children with suspected or confirmed chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Calprotectin, a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in neutrophils, is stable in feces for several days, and can be measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. LÄS MER

  4. 4. New markers of bulk milk quality in relation to mastitis : studies on polymorphonuclear leukocytes and α-lactalbumin

    Författare :Erik Wickström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : All dairy processors depend on a continuous supply of high-quality bulk milk from milk producers to be able to distribute liquid milk and dairy products. Mastitis, inflammation of the bovine udder, is the most common disease in dairy cows, and leads to altered milk composition and impaired milk quality. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Host cell adhesion of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes

    Författare :Carl Johan Treutiger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Plasmodium falciparum; erythrocyte rosetting; cytoadherence; cerebral malaria; PfEMPI; serum proteins; PECAM-I CD31;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive binding of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes to the microvascular endothelium (cytoadherence) and to uninfected eryrthrocytes (rosetting) are regarded as key-events in the development of a severe malaria infection. P. falciparum rosetting was confirmed to be associated with the development of cerebral malaria in The Gambia. LÄS MER
