  1. 1. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach

    Författare :Mikael Gustafsson; Erik Gylfe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes; locomotion; phagocytosis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; membrane transport; intracellular free calcium; cellular pH; water influx; actin dynamics; digital video microscopy; image processing; fura-2; BCECF; DII; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Transmigration of Toxoplasma gondii across biological barriers

    Författare :Emily C. Ross; Antonio Barragan; Ildiko Rita Dunay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; blood-brain barrier; leukocyte; immune cell; transendothelial migration; cell adhesion molecule; host-pathogen; FAK; integrin; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that can likely infect all warm-blooded vertebrates, with estimates of up to 30% of the global human population being infected. Although infection with T. gondii is usually asymptomatic or mild, in immunocompromised individuals infection can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Signaling determinants in Trojan horse-mediated dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Författare :Einar B. Ólafsson; Antonio Barragan; Eva Frickel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; leukocyte motility; dendritic cell; amoeboid migration; host-parasite interactions; podosome; integrin; ITGB1; ECM; MAT; TIMP; MMP; MAPK; Erk; RTK; HGFR; Ras; calcium; VDCC; VGCC; calmodulin; CaMkII; CD63; FAK; SRC; Pi3k; hypermigration; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects all warm-blooded vertebrates including one third of the global human population. While infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy human hosts, reactivated and acute infection in immunosuppressed or immunecompromised individuals can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis After ingestion, the parasite crosses the intestinal epithelium and rapidly achieves systemic dissemination, ultimately establishing chronic infection in the brain. 4. 4. Functions of integrin receptors in extravascular neutrophil migration and respiratory burst

    Författare :Joachim Werr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adhesion molecules; leukocyte migration; neutrophils; chemotaxis; integrins; respiratory burst; leukocyte extravasation; extracellular matrix; intravital microscopy; acute inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Leukocytes circulate in the vasculature, but, must leave the blood stream and migrate through the surrounding tissue to exert their protective functions in inflammation. Numerous studies have revealed that intravascular leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions involve functions of adhesion molecules belonging to the selectin and integrin receptor families. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interaction of human blood platelets, lymphocytes and monocytes with vascular laminin isoforms

    Författare :Gezahegn Gorfu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Vascular laminin isoforms; extracellular matrix; integrins; cell adhesion; cell migration; high endothelial venules; lymphocytes; monocytes; platelets; leukocyte extravasation;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory and immune responses play a fundamental role in both health and disease, and leukocytes are important actors in these processes. Migration of the leukocytes to sites of injury or inflammation is a crucial component of innate and adaptive immunity. It is currently accepted that leukocyte extravasation is a multistep process.
