16. Immune maturation and modulation in childhood allergies : Aspects of epigenetic, mucosal and systemic immune mediators in allergy development and prevention
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of allergic diseases has in the past century increased among children in affluent societies. Underlying causes are incompletely disentangled, but decreased diversity in environmental and microbial exposures could drive allergy development. LÄS MER
17. Immunological interactions between mother and child during pregnancy in relation to the development of allergic diseases in the offspring
Sammanfattning : Background: Pregnancy and allergic disease have both been postulated as T-helper 2 (Th2) phenomena. Thus, the increased propensity of allergic mothers to mount Th2-responses might generate favourable effects on the maintenance of pregnancy, but might also be unfavorable, as fetal exposure to a strong Th2 environment could influence the immune development in the offspring to a Th2-like phenotype, favouring IgE production and possibly allergy development later in life. 18. Computational Analysis of Molecular Recognition Involving the Ribosome and a Voltage Gated K+ Channel
Sammanfattning : Over the last few decades, computer simulation techniques have been established as an essential tool for understanding biochemical processes. This thesis deals mainly with the application of free energy calculations to ribosomal complexes and a cardiac ion channel. LÄS MER
19. Exercise-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease : Attendance, Adherence and the Added Value of a Behavioural Medicine Intervention
Sammanfattning : Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading global cause of death. After an index event related to CAD, exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (exCR) is strongly recommended as part of the secondary prevention. LÄS MER
20. Staphylococci and Enterococci : Studies on activity of antimicrobial agents and detection of genes involved in biofilm formation
Sammanfattning : The Gram-positive cocci, Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS), Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium, are the bacteria most often isolated from patients with hospital acquired infections. S. LÄS MER
