  2. 2. Hospital length stay : register-based studies on breast cancer surgery

    Författare :Rikard Lindqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Length of stay; breast cancer; breast surgery; social factors;

    Sammanfattning : The present investigation focused on three main questions: what factors can determine length of stay for primary surgery for breast cancer? Can these factors be attributed to the decreasing trend in mean length of stay for primary breast-cancer surgery? And can there be any adverse effect of declining length of stay, such as prolonged sick leave, following breast-cancer surgery? For the four studies of the thesis, routinely collected data was used. In study I the Swedish Hospital Discharge Register was used to describe the trend in mean length of stay of women surgically treated for breast cancer and to investigate the effect of the increasing use of breast-conserving surgery on the decreasing trend in mean length of stay. 3. 3. Moderately preterm infants : studies on length of hospital stay and neonatal outcome

    Författare :Maria Altman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Moderately preterm infants account for a large proportion of admissions and bed-days in neonatal units. Determinants of length of hospital stay, contemporary measures of morbidity by gestational week and risk factors predicting neonatal morbidity have been poorly studied. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Postnatal care - outcomes of various care options in Sweden

    Författare :Lotta Ellberg; Ulf Högberg; Viveca Lindh; Ulla Waldenström; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: In high-income countries, hospital length of stay after a normal birth has gradually decreased correspondingly to length of stay in care of other patients. A short stay provides a greater opportunity for autonomy and an increased sense of participation, but it may involve great challenges satisfying parental guidance as well as on the possibility of preventing, discovering, and treating neonatal medical conditions. 5. 5. Severity of illness versus severity of disease : definitions and applications

    Författare :Rosimary Almeida; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Outcome assessment should consist of two basic steps - "selection of a meaningful outcome" and "determination of what caused the outcome". The latter step requires comparisons, and therefore information about the initial status of the patients. LÄS MER
