  1. 1. To leak or not to leak? : Land‐Use Displacement and Carbon Leakage from Forest Conservation

    Författare :Sabine Henders; Madelene Ostwald; Martin Persson; Julie Wilk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; land‐use change and deforestation; accounting methods; consumer and producer responsibility; REDD ; Klimatförändring; markanvändning och avskogning; redovisningsmetoder; konsument‐ och producentansvaret; REDD ;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the question how emissions from land‐use displacement can be assessed and accounted for, using the example of carbon‐leakage accounting in the planned UNFCCC mechanism on ‘Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation’ (REDD). REDD serves here as example of an international forest conservation policy that might be effective locally but could lead to displacement of deforestation to other countries. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cough-induced leak point pressure : Reproducibility and validity of a new urodynamic method to assess stress incontinence in women

    Författare :Hans Siltberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Urinary incontinence; leak point pressure; urodynamics; validity; reproducibility; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary incontinence is defined as "involuntary loss of urine which is objectively demonstrable and a social or hygienic problem." The symptom of urinary incontinence is common and more prevalent in women than in men. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of a Methodology for Detecting Coolant Void in Lead-cooled Fast Reactors by Means of Neutron Measurements

    Författare :Peter Wolniewicz; Håkansson Ane; Christian Jammes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LFR; fission chamber; nuclear; reactor; leak; criticality;

    Sammanfattning : In a lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR), small bubbles (in the order of one mm or less) may enter the coolant from a leaking steam generator. If such a leakage is undetected the small bubbles may eventually coalesce into a larger bubble in local stagnation zones under the active core. 4. 4. Applying the Pump and Leak Hypothesis. An experimental and theoretical investigation of the principles of ion regulation and excitability in the crustacean stretch receptor neuron

    Författare :Sten Theander; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; lobster; stretch receptor neuron; leak current; Q-current; K-Cl cotransporter; A-current; mathematical model; excitability; GABA channel; neurophysiology; ion regulation; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : An invertebrate nerve cell preparation, the lobster stretch receptor neuron, was investigated with respect to maintenance of its resting voltage, intracellular ion concentrations and excitability using voltage clamp technique and ion-selective microelectrodes. It was found that the resting voltage (-65 mV) of microelectrode impaled cells is caused by (a) a homogenous population of K+ channels which we denoted as leak channels (b) an electrogenic and voltage-dependent Na-K pump current and (c) an inward microelectrode-induced "impalement" current carried mainly by Na+. 5. 5. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria.
