21. Studies on novel interactors in human adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : Obesity is associated with a mild inflammation and altered protein secretion in adipose tissue. These changes have been suggested to contribute to the development of obesity-associated disorders including, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER
22. Nonlinear Isoviscous Behaviour of Compliant Journal Bearings
Sammanfattning : Plans to shut down nuclear power plants in some European countries as well as increased electricity production by wind and solar power will increase the work load on hydroelectric power plants in the future. Also, due to the power grid regulations, hydroelectric power plants undergo more frequent start-ups and shut-downs. LÄS MER
23. Characterisation of human adipose tissue : ceramide metabolism, depot differences and evaluation of dysfunctionality
Sammanfattning : Normal adipose tissue function is necessary for maintaining proper energy balance, as both excess and absence of this tissue lead to metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance. Adipose tissue can be dysfunctional in many ways, including disturbances in adipocyte size, lipolysis rate, adipokine secretion, inflammation, fibrosis or oxidative stress. LÄS MER
24. Parameter Estimation in Linear Descriptor Systems
Sammanfattning : Linear descriptor systems form the natural way in which linear models of physical systems are delivered from an object-oriented modeling tool like Modelica. Linear descriptor systems are also known as linear differential-algebraic equations in the continuous-time case. LÄS MER
25. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters.
