  1. 1. The fate of airborne lead pollution in boreal forest soils

    Författare :Jonatan Klaminder; Ingemar Renberg; John G. Farmer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Air pollution; lead; lead isotopes; peat; forest soil; forest plants;

    Sammanfattning : Lead has a more than three-millennia-long pollution history in Europe. Metal production, burning of coal and use of leaded petrol resulted in a significant pollution of the atmosphere. As a consequence of atmospheric fallout, the Swedish boreal forest is strongly contaminated by airborne lead pollution. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Long-term changes of mercury, lead and persistent organic pollutants in arctic environments

    Författare :Carola Lindeberg; Ingemar Renberg; Mats Tysklind; Ove Emteryd; Edvard Karlsson; Per Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; time trends; chlordane; hexachlorobenzene; mercury; lead; soil; climate changes; Arctic; Greenland; Sweden; Swedish mountains; PCB; PBDE; pesticides; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic represents a huge area with poor infrastructure contributing to limited possibilities to establish monitoring and research programs. From the investigations that have been performed we know that the arctic environment is affected by anthropogenic emissions from lower latitudes, but knowledge about underlying transport processes, the arctic pollution extent and the rates of changes are limited. 3. 3. Iron isotopes in aquatic systems

    Författare :Sarah Conrad; Johan Ingri; Michael Bau; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The cycling of iron (Fe) is a key component for understanding water quality and biogeochemical processes. It serves as mediator during biotic and abiotic processes, as electron acceptor during the degradation of organic matter, as surface for trace element and organic matter adsorption, and is necessary for primary production processes. 4. 4. Nitrogen Cycling at Cold Climate Mine Sites in Northen Sweden

    Författare :Lino Nilsson; Anders Widerlund; Anders Lundqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitrogen; Mining; Cycling; nutrients; Isotopes; Nitrogen-model; modelling; numerical-modelling; Isotope-tracing; Tracing; Isotope; geochemistry; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : High nitrogen discharge from mining sites has been an environmental issue that has been closely studied in the recent years. The environmental effects of high nitrogen discharge are mainly eutrophication, but can also lead to changed species composition and algae blooms. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Fractionation of Cu and Fe isotopes in metal-rich mine sites : biotic and abiotic processes

    Författare :Nathalie Pérez Rodríguez; Magnus Land; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cu and Fe isotopes; fractionation; tailings; plants; phytoremediation; organic amendments; soil bacteria; Cu and Fe cycle; covellite; redox processes; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : After mineral exploitation the residual grinded and milled material, rich in sulphide minerals and heavy metals, is often left exposed to the atmospheric variables. This weathered mine waste material can lead to the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD) which has negative effects to the environment. LÄS MER
