  1. 1. Tailored layer-by-layer films of nanofibrillated cellulose

    Författare :Erdem Karabulut; Lars Wågberg; Lennart Piculell; Eva Blomberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :layer-by-layer assembly; nanofibrillated cellulose; thin film; surface adsorption; polyelectrolytes;

    Sammanfattning : The preparation of multifunctional films, coatings and membranes from natural, sustainable and low-cost raw materials has attracted considerable interest during the last decade. In this respect, cellulose-based products possess a great promise for research and industry due both to the availability of large amounts of material in nature and to the preparation of new classes of nano-sized and well-characterized building-blocks of cellulose from trees or annual plants. Sammanfattning : It is widely known that surfaces play an important role in numerous biological processes and technological applications. Thus, being able to modify surface properties provides an opportunity to control many phenomena occurring at interfaces. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Protein and polyelectrolyte layer-by-layer films: Assembly and electron transfer

    Författare :Karolina Haberska; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; layer-by-layer assembly; nanoparticles; electron transfer; bioelectrocatalysis;

    Sammanfattning : A layer-by-layer deposition technique for assembly of the three-dimensional bioelectrochemical systems, with potential applications such as sensing layers in biosensors or catalytic organisations in biofuel cells, was addressed in this thesis. Several investigations were carried out to understand and control multilayer films formation on planar surfaces, using electrochemical and ellipsometrical methods. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interfacial Properties of Film Forming Proteins and their Layer-by-Layer Assembly with Nanoparticles

    Författare :Olga Krivosheeva; Per Claesson; Thomas Arnebrant; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein adsorption; mussel adhesive protein; Mefp-1; hydrophobins; HFBI; HFBII; adsorption kinetics; layer-by-layer; stability; cross-linking; zeta-potential; dual polarization interferometry; quartz crystal microbalances;

    Sammanfattning :  The aim of this thesis work was to investigate the interfacial properties of film forming proteins, stability of the layers created by them, and their interactions with nanoparticles. Mussel adhesive protein (Mefp-1) and hydrophobins (HFBI and HFBII) were the three main proteins used. LÄS MER
