1. Eastern equatorial Pacific bulk sediment properties and paleoceanography since the late Neogene
Sammanfattning : Reconstructing eastern equatorial Pacific (EEP) oceanography since the late Neogene (about 8 million years ago, Ma) is a central topic in current paleoceanographic investigations. The reason for this is two-fold. LÄS MER
2. Provenance of the pre-Quaternary aeolian dust deposits of East Asia
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component in the climate system, but its effect on and response to climate changes are poorly understood, especially over long timescales. This thesis investigates the sources of late Paleogene and Neogene dust deposits that formed under warmer-than-present global climates in the northern Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) region in mid-latitude East Asia. 3. Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys on North Atlantic previously glaciated passive margins : reference forms for conclusions on uplift and erosion
Sammanfattning : Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys are landforms under destruction in the present climate and/or tectonic regime, and thus mainly reflect processes not active today. Uplifted palaeosurfaces exist along the formerly glaciated passive continental margins around the North Atlantic. LÄS MER
4. Paleoenvironmental significance of Baltic and North Atlantic late neogene benthic foraminifera
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of six previously published or submitted articles on (1) the significance of the geographic distribution of Recent benthic foraminifera in the Baltic Sea and the central North Atlantic, and (2) the significance of the stratigraphic distribution of Pliocene benthic foraminifera from the Blake Plateau, western North Atlantic.Recent benthic foraminifera in the Baltic Sea have a geographic distribution strongly correlated to the highly variable hydrographical conditions.
