16. Magnetic properties of magnetosomal greigite and factors influencing its occurrence and preservation in Baltic Sea Littorina sediments
Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is one of the world’s largest brackish water environments and is today suffering from, for example, eutrophication, spreading hypoxia, accumulations of contaminants and invasive organisms. These problems exist due to a combination of natural features that makes the Baltic Sea a sensitive ecosystem (such as long water residence time, limited water exchange, large catchment area), and anthropogenic pressures on land, (such as agriculture and land-use changes, large human populations and industries) and in the sea (such as transport, fishing and bottom-trawling). 17. Diatom and Sedimentological Investigations on West Antarctic Shelf Sediment
Sammanfattning : Climate and environmental change following the retreat of the last glacial ice sheet in the Antarctic Peninsula has been interpreted, employing diatom abundance, relative abundance of Chaetoceros resting spores and diatom assemblages as proxies. These together with sedimentological data and radiocarbon dating, suggest four major events that can be further subdivided. LÄS MER
18. Remobilization of terrestrial carbon across temporal and spatial scales deduced from the Arctic Ocean sediment record
Sammanfattning : Arctic warming is expected to trigger large-scale environmental change including remobilization of terrestrial organic carbon (terrOC). Permafrost and peatland systems contain more than twice as much carbon as the atmosphere, and may upon destabilization expose large amounts of their carbon to microbial decomposition and release climate-forcing greenhouse gases (GHG). 19. Glacial Isostatic Adjustment : Inferences on properties and processes in the upper mantle from 3D dynamical modeling
Sammanfattning : Observations of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) offers a powerful window into the properties of the Earth's interior. Combined with dynamical modeling of the GIA process we can use the observations to infer properties such as the elastic structure of the lithosphere, the rheology of the mantle and changes in the stress conditions in the Earth. 20. Retreat pattern and dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets: reconstructions based on meltwater features
Sammanfattning : The pattern of ice marginal retreat during the last deglaciation has, thus far, most frequently been reconstructed using absolute dating methods and landform record. In reconstructions using landform record, meltwater system has most often been neglected. This is predominantly a consequence of the smaller scale of meltwater features. LÄS MER
