1. Approaches to particle acceleration in intense laser-matter interaction
Sammanfattning : In the interaction of ultra-intense laser fields with matter, the target is rapidly ionized and a plasma is formed. The ability of a plasma to sustain acceleration gradients, orders of magnitude larger than achievable with conventional accelerators, has led to a great interest in laser-driven plasma-based particle acceleration and radiation generation, with applications in materials science, biology and medicine. 2. Radiation in simulations of high intensity laser-matter interaction
Sammanfattning : We consider electromagnetic waves propagating in plasmas, with two main themes covered. First nonlinear plasma theory and wave-wave interaction. Here a wave-wave symmetry, the Manley-Rowe relations, is used as a method of determining the physicality of modified plasma fluid equations. LÄS MER
3. Temporal Aspects of High-Intensity Laser-Matter Interactions
Sammanfattning : The availability of short-pulse, high-intensity lasers has opened doors to new areas in atomic and plasma physics. The short pulses (a few femtoseconds), that are available today, enable unprecedented temporal measurements, while the high peak power accessible (several terawatts) allows physicists to study the interaction between light and relativistic plasmas. 4. Relativistic light-matter interaction
Sammanfattning : During the past decades, the development of laser technology has produced pulses with increasingly higher peak intensities. These can now be made such that their strength rivals, and even exceeds, the atomic potential at the typical distance of an electron from the nucleus. LÄS MER
5. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications
Sammanfattning : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has both opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, as well as probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities.
