1. Laser welding and laser heat treatment of high strength steels
Sammanfattning : Laser materials processing, including thermal treatment and laser welding has been undergoing continuous growth in the manufacturing industry for decades. A laser beam offers high precision and energy transfer, capable of various processing. LÄS MER
2. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 3. Formation of nanoparticles by laser-activated processes
Sammanfattning : Due to the small dimensions, nanoparticles and materials consisting of nano-sized building blocks exhibit unique — mostly superior — properties, well differing from their bulk counterpart. Most of the novel properties of nanoparticles (and nanomaterials) are size-dependent, while the majority of the common gasphase methods used for generation of nanopowders result in different, usually wide, size-dispersions. 4. Laser induced microstructural modifications in supported gold nanoparticle distributions

5. Microstructural manipulation by laser irradiation of prepared samples : The ’Snapshot Method’
Sammanfattning : Various metallurgical microstructures and their formation are studied in this thesis by using a laser beam to melt a variety of materials with different chemical compositions over a range of thermal cycles. The laser beam was used conventionally in a narrow gap multi-layer weld, used for welding large depths with filler wire additions, as well as a non-traditional simulated welding approach labelled here as the Snapshot method.
