  1. 1. Silicon Nanopore Arrays : Fabrication and Applications for DNA Sensing

    Författare :Miao Zhang; Jan Linnros; Meni Wanunu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanopore; array; electrochemical etching; DNA; optics; thermophoresis;

    Sammanfattning : Nanopore biomolecule sensing and sequencing has emerged as a simple but powerful tool for single molecule studies over the past two decades. By elec- trophoretically driving single molecules through a nanometer-sized pore, often sitting in an insulating membrane that separates two buffer solutions, ionic current blockades can be detected to reveal rich information of the molecules, such as DNA length, protein size and conformation, even nucleic acid se- quence. 2. 2. Infrared Neural Modulation: Photothermal Effects on Cortex Neurons Using Infrared Laser Heating

    Författare :Qingling Xia; Tobias Nyberg; Björn Granseth; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neural modulation; infrared laser; in - vitro experiment; multi - electrode arrays MEA ; heating model; temperature; neural networks; infrared neural inhibition INI ; hyperexcitation;

    Sammanfattning : It would be of great value to have a precise and non-damaging neuromodulation technique in the field of basic neuroscience research and for clinical treatment of neurological diseases. Infrared neural modulation (INM) is a new modulation modality developed in the last decade, which uses pulsed or continues infrared (IR) light with a wavelength of 1200 to 2200 nm to directly alter neural signals. 3. 3. VCSEL Cavity Engineering for High Speed Modulation and Silicon Photonics Integration

    Författare :Emanuel Haglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed modulation; on-chip laser source; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser VCSEL ; semiconductor lasers; optical interconnects; large signal modulation; laser dynamics; heterogeneous integration; vertical-cavity silicon-integrated laser VCSIL ; silicon photonics;

    Sammanfattning : The GaAs-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is the standard light source in today's optical interconnects, due to its energy efficiency, low cost, and high speed already at low drive currents. The latest commercial VCSELs operate at data rates of up to 28 Gb/s, but it is expected that higher speeds will be required in the near future. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sound source localization from laser vibrometry recordings

    Författare :Erik Olsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Acoustic holography deals with a typical inverse problem, to obtain the unknown from something that is known. From measurements of sound, most often using microphone arrays, reconstructions of the sound field are made in an attempt to find out what causes the sound. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mode and Polarization Control in VCSELs using Surface Structures

    Författare :Åsa Haglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; single mode; dynamics; surface relief; Semiconductor laser; polarization; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser; sub-wavelength grating; fabrication;

    Sammanfattning : The vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is a novel, low-cost light source with many attractive performance characteristics, such as low operating current, circular output beam, and high modulation bandwidth at low currents. This together with its easy integration into two-dimensional arrays has made it an established transmitter in short-distance single and parallel fiber-optical links, and new applications are continuously arising.
