  1. 21. Splanchnic perfusion in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Anders Thorén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Splanchnic circulation; jejunal mucosal perfusion; laser Doppler flowmetry; cardiopulmonary bypass; cardiac surgery; inotropic agents; gastric tonometry; sympathetic reflex;

    Sammanfattning : Splanchnic ischemia in cardiac surgery is considered a risk factor in the development of the Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the intensive care unit. Splanchnic ischemia/reperfusion may lead to an injury of the intestinal mucosa and induce a systemic inflammation (SIRS), which is proposed to precede MODS. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Studies on sitting pressure and buttock microcirculation : aiming at developing an alarm in the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries

    Författare :Johan Thorfinn; Disa Lidman; Folke Sjöberg; Henry Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Blood supply; Buttocks; Hyperemia; Ischemia; Laser-Doppler flowmetry; Microcirculation; Posture physiology; Pressure; Skin blood supply; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries are a major problem, the prevalence in this group being reported as high as 20 – 30 percent. Most pressure ulcers develop around the pelvic girdle, and the key-contributing factor in the development of pressure ulcers is ischaemia due to longstanding pressure. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Intestinal effects of lung recruitment maneuvers

    Författare :Jonas Claesson; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Conny Arnerlöv; Björn Biber; Göran Hedenstierna; Petter Aadahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute lung injury; oleic acid lung injury; ischemia; reperfusion injury; swine; mechanical ventilation; lung recruitment; splanchnic circulation; laser Doppler flowmetry; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; lactate; glycerol; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Lung recruitment maneuvers (brief episodes of high airway pressure) are a modern treatment alternative to achieve open lung conditions under mechanical ventilation of patients with acute lung injury. It is well known that positive pressure ventilation with high airway pressures cause negative circulatory effects, and that the effects on regional vascular beds can be even more pronounced than the systemic effects. 4. 24. Helicobacter pylori and Gastric Protection Mechanisms : An in vivo Study in Mice and Rats

    Författare :Johanna Henriksnäs; Lena Holm; Lars Engstrand; Erik Persson; Lars Fändriks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; intra-vital microscopy; laser-Doppler flowmetry; pH-sensitive microelectrode; nitric oxide; Helicobacter pylori; bicarbonate secretion; mouse model; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The stomach is frequently exposed to hazardous agents and to resist this harsh environment, several protective mechanisms exist. Of special interest is the gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori which causes gastritis, ulcers and cancer but the mechanism leading to these diseases are still unclear. However it is very likely that H. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Nitrate, Nitrite and Nitric Oxide in Gastric Mucosal Defense

    Författare :Joel Petersson; Lena Holm; Jon Lundberg; Mia Phillipson; Matthew Grisham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dietary nitrate; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; laser-Doppler flowmetry; mucosal damage; intra-vital microscopy; mucosal permeability; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The human stomach normally contains high levels of bioactive nitric oxide (NO). This NO derives from salivary nitrate (NO3-) that is converted to nitrite (NO2-) by oral bacteria and thereafter non-enzymatically reduced in the acidic gastric lumen to NO. LÄS MER
