  1. 21. Speech outcome in children born with cleft lip and palate treated with one-stage palate repair : aspects of function and environment

    Författare :Jill Nyberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims: This project focused on speech outcomes at 5 and 10 years of age after two different surgical protocols and on peer perceptions of speech in children born with cleft palate. The aim was to gain knowledge about speech outcome in children born with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) or cleft palate only (CPO), treated with one-stage palatoplasty at approximately 12 months of age, according to two different surgical protocols: minimal incision technique (MIT) and minimal incision technique with muscle reconstruction (MITmr). 2. 22. Speech and voice characteristics in multiple sclerosis and cervical spinal cord injury : descriptive studies and effects of respiratory training

    Författare :Kerstin Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acoustic analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims: Respiratory function may be impaired in multiple sclerosis (MS) and cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI), but few studies have reported voice and speech data before and after respiratory training in MS and CSCI. The aims of these studies were therefore to provide a detailed description of voice and speech following CSCI, and to evaluate effects of glossopharyngeal breathing (glossopharyngeal pistoning for lung insufflation, GI) and expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) on respiration, voice and speech, and communication in individuals with MS or CSCI. 3. 23. Hearing in children with cleft palate

    Författare :Birgitta Tengroth; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The overall aim of this thesis was to collect longitudinal information about hearing thresholds and complications due to otitis media with effusion (OME) in children with cleft palate. Since OME is highly prevalent in children with cleft palate, many authors have hypothesized that the hearing loss associated to OME contributes to the delayed development of early speech and language often seen in these children. 4. 24. The 22q11 deletion syndrome.A clinical and epidemiological study

    Författare :Sólveig Oskarsdóttir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :22q11 deletion; disability; dysmorphology; incidence; phenotype;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aims of this study were to 1) assess the incidence and prevalence of the 22q11 deletion syndrome(22q11DS) in a defined population of western Sweden, 2) to evaluate the presenting phenotype and 3)to investigate the profile of cognitive and nervous system-related disabilities and the resulting handicap,taking into account physical, neurological and psychological aspects.Material and Methods: The incidence was studied in children born in the Western Götaland Region,where Göteborg is the main city, during the years 1991-2000. 5. 25. School-age outcomes of children born at the limit of viability : a Swedish national prospective follow-up study at 10 to 12 years

    Författare :Aijaz Farooqi; Serenius Fredrik; Hägglöf Bruno; Neil Marlow; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :school-age outcome; extremely immature; functional limitations; growth; special health care needs; mental health; executive functions; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Background/Aim: During the past two decades, major advances in maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, and the development of regionalized perinatal care have resulted in dramatic increases in survival rates, by more than 60%, of extremely immature (EI) infants born at less than 26 completed weeks of gestation, creating a new infant population. Studies of school-age outcomes in children with an extremely low birth weight of < 1000 g, born in the1980s, indicated that these children had a substantially high prevalence of low-severity neuropsychological deficits, behavioral problems, and difficulties at school.
