6. Modern landfill leachates – quality and treatment
Sammanfattning : Waste management in Europe has changed, mainly as a result of stricter regulations, most notably the European Landfill Directive 1999/31/EC. In Sweden, landfill tax and a ban on the landfilling of waste with total organic carbon content over 10 % have diverted large amounts of waste from landfills. LÄS MER
7. Development and Evaluation of a Filter-Bed-Based System for Full-Scale Treatment of Industrial Landfill Leachate
Sammanfattning : It is well known that nature offers an abundance of materials and processes that can be adapted in low-tech fashion, to fabricate systems capable of removing pollutants from wastewater. During the last decade, extensive basic and engineering research on such natural treatment systems have led to improvement of the quality of discharged wastewaters. LÄS MER
8. Characterization and treatment of municipal landfill leachates
Sammanfattning : Abstract The efficiency of different leachate treatment methods for the removal of refractory organic compounds and ammonium-nitrogen was investigated. The methods evaluated were nitrification, denitrification, adsorption onto activated carbon, precipitation by ferric chloride or aluminum sulphate and oxidation by ozone or Fenton´s reagent. LÄS MER
9. Use of chemical denitrification for nitrogen removal from landfill leachates
Sammanfattning : Landfill leachate usually has a high concentration ofammonium nitrogen and heavy metals, but too low alkalinitycontent for full biological nitrification, as well as a too lowconcentration of biologically degradable organic carbon forbiological denitrification, and at the same time very variablecomposition (quantity and quality) with time. These factorsresult in serious problems for treating leachate with existingsystems. LÄS MER
10. Phthalates in landfill leachates : a signature of their degradation: Analytical aspects & toxicological considerations
Sammanfattning : Phthalic acid diesters comprise a large group of organic compounds that are used to manufacture a variety of products all over the world, and this has raised concerns about the fate of these compounds in the environment. The diester-containing products often end up in landfills, where they are degraded by various micro-organisms, which gives rise to transient intermediates such as phthalic acid monoesters and ortho-phthalic acid.
