21. Land Use Change in Space and Time : implications for plant species conservation in semi-natural grasslands
Sammanfattning : Land use change has during the last century altered the traditional rural landscape in Sweden, resulting in a major decline in species diversity. Traditional small-scale farming, with a remarkably high small-scale species richness, has changed in favour of rationalized agriculture, and many semi-natural grasslands, i.e. LÄS MER
22. Rainfall variability, soils and land use changes in the Ethiopian highlands
Sammanfattning : Most farmers in the Ethiopian highlands are dependent on rain-fed agriculture. The indigenous cereal tef is the most important crop for the farmers in the highlands. The central highland is an environmentally fragile area and a marginal area of Ethiopia with a recurring problem for the farmers to sustain an adequate agricultural production. LÄS MER
23. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change
Sammanfattning : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 24. Jordbruksmark i förändring. Drivkrafter bakom och förutsättningar för offentlig styrning i Sverige och Norge
Sammanfattning : With a focus on agricultural land use change, the overriding aim of this thesis is to contribute to the development of a more sustainable use and management of resources. A core requirement for doing so is to develop deeper knowledge of the ways we use resources and change land uses today. LÄS MER
25. Land use GHG emissions and mitigation options, simulated by CoupModel
Sammanfattning : Climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are one of the major challenges to the humankind of 21st Century. This thesis focuses on understanding, estimating and suggesting mitigation of the GHG emissions (mainly N2O and CO2) from the land use sector, specifically from forest ecosystems on drained peatlands but also from willow production on agricultural clay soil.
