  1. 1. Alpine lake sediment archives and catchment geomorphology : causal relationships and implications for paleoenvironmental reconstructions

    Författare :Lena Rubensdotter; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ingmar Borgström; Eve Arnold; Jens-Ove Näslund; Catherine Souch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpine lakes; geomorphology; lacustrine sedimentation; slope processes; glaciofluvial; Holocene; Swedish Lapland; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Lake sediments are frequently used as archives of climate and environmental change. Minerogenic sediment variability in alpine lakes is often used to reconstruct past glacier and slope process activity. Alpine lake sediments can however have many different origins, which may induce errors in paleoenvironmental reconstructions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Diatom-rich sediment formation in lakes

    Författare :Petra Zahajská; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silicon; silica; diatom; biogenic silica; lake; sediment; stable Si isotopes; Ge Si; Yellowstone; Northern Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Unicellular photosynthetic golden algae called diatoms are one of the most abundant silicifying organisms. Diatoms take up silicon and build their frustules, in the form of biogenic silica (BSi), which have high preservation potential, and thus are found in sediments. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Littorina transgression in southeastern Sweden and its relation to mid-Holocene climate variability

    Författare :Shiyong Yu; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marklära; kartografi; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; tidal action; solar forcing; global meltwater pulse; North Atlantic storminess; climate changes; shoreline displacements; sea-level fluctuations; Littorina transgression; Baltic Sea; klimatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lateglacial and Holocene shoreline displacement along the Baltic coast resulted from both the isostatic land uplift and the ice-volume-equivalent sea-level rise. Relative changes of these two components led to alternating contact/isolation of the Baltic Basin with the North Sea during the Holocene. LÄS MER
