  1. 1. Cellulose derived carbon dots : From synthesis to evaluation as multifunctional building blocks in biomedical scaffolds

    Författare :Nejla Benyahia Erdal; Minna Hakkarainen; Jukka Seppälä; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose; microwave; carbon dots; polycaprolactone; scaffold; mineralization; drug loading; cellulosa; mikrovågor; kolnanopartiklar; polykaprolakton; stödmatris för vävnadsregenerering; mineralisering; läkemedelsbärare; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : The implementation of biobased and biodegradable polymeric materials in biomedical applications is often coupled with issues related to their insufficient mechanical properties or limited bioactivity. In this thesis, a perspective on valorization of biomass is presented, demonstrating the transformation of cellulose into biobased carbon nanomaterials with the potential to serve as multifunctional property enhancers in polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold materials for tissue engineering. Sammanfattning : Advancements in drug delivery have enabled a wider array of prevention, control and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Drug delivery systems have the possibility of encapsulating drugs with low solubility, delivering them to specific locations in the body as well as obtaining a controlled and sustained drug release. 3. 3. Aqueous behaviour of characteristic molecules in the synthesis of porous silica materials : - an atomistic description

    Författare :Emelie Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; porous silica; struture directing agents; 29Si-NMR; neutron scattering; empirical potentail structure refinement; micelles;

    Sammanfattning : The formation process of porous silica materials is an intricate process, involving a number of components that interact to form a highly organized material. Both zeolites and mesoporous silica materials typically require the presence of organic structure director agents (SDAs) around which the silica network polymerizes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Electrostatically Driven Structure Formation in Clay Dispersions

    Författare :Maria Jansson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lera; Montmorillonit; Laponite®; Taktoid; Anisotropi; Överladdning; Interkalering; Grov korninga modeller; MD simuleringar; MC simuleringar; SAXS; Svälltryck; zeta-potential; Clay; Montmorillonite; Laponite®; Nanoplatelets; Tactoid; Anisotropy; Overcharging; Intercalation; Coarse-grained modeling; MD simulations; MC simulations; SAXS; Swelling pressure; zeta-potential;

    Sammanfattning : Clay minerals consist of clay platelets, which are anisotropic in both size and charge, and these can form a lamellar structure depending on the size, making it a seemingly perfect model system for an electrical double layer. The situation is however, from a structural point, slightly less ideal. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Physics of Viral Infectivity: Energetics of Genome Ejection

    Författare :Meerim Jeembaeva; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microfluidics.; differential scanning calorimetry; capsid; Key words: phage; osmotic suppression; DNA ejection; isothermal titration calorimetry; enthalpy;

    Sammanfattning : All viruses that infect bacteria, plant, or animal cells involve a genome (RNA or DNA) that is encapsidated by a rigid protein shell. After delivery of the viral genome into the host cell, new capsid proteins, which are encoded by viral DNA or RNA, are expressed and self-assembled into new viral capsids. LÄS MER
