  1. 1. Folate - Associations with breast cancer depending on intake, metabolism, genetic variation and estrogen receptor status

    Författare :Ulrika Ericson; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; folate; B-vitamins; breast cancer; diet; epidemiology; nutrition; plasma; polymorphism; estrogen receptor α; estrogen receptor β; reproducibility; prospective;

    Sammanfattning : Folate is a B-vitamin that may influence cancer development via its role as methyl donor for DNA synthesis and methylation. Plant foods contain many bioactive compounds including folate and fiber. Results from the Malmö Diet and Cancer (MDC) cohort indicate lower breast cancer risk at high fiber intake. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Collagenous colitis. Epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation and associated autoimmune disorders

    Författare :Lina Vigren; Gastroenterologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; collagenous colitis; epidemiology; inflammatory bowel disease; lymphocytic colitis; microscopic colitis; smoking;

    Sammanfattning : Collagenous colitis (CC) affects middle-aged women and results in chronic watery non-bloody diarrhoea. The incidence of CC has increased but has never been determined in southern Sweden. During the period 2001-2010 the mean annual incidence was stable; 5.4/105 (median age 71 years). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cytogenetic studies of primary and metastatic breast cancer

    Författare :Adewale Adeyinka; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histology; metastases; prognosis; male breast cancer; breast cancer; trisomy 12; Cytogenetics; chromosomes; vävnadskultur; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : A series of primary and metastatic breast carcinomas obtained from female and male patients were cytogenetically analysed. Trisomy 12 was identified as a recurrent and sometimes early event in breast carcinogenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Streptococcal protein Rib and related proteins: a family of repetitive surface proteins that elicit protective immunity

    Författare :Margaretha Stålhammar-Carlemalm; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; cross-protection; epithelial cell adhesion; protective immunity; vaccination; surface proteins; Group B streptococcus; Streptococcus pyogenes; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Streptococci constitute a heterogeneous group of Gram-positive bacteria, divided into different serological groups on the basis of antigenic differences in a cell wall-associated carbohydrate. This thesis describes related surface proteins expressed by bacteria in two of these groups, the group B streptococcus (GBS) and the group A streptococcus (GAS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of Lifestyle, Hormones, and Genes on Breast Cancer

    Författare :Maria Hietala; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; BRCA1; BRCA2; androgen receptor; CAG; GGC; polymorphism; htSNP; oral contraceptives; testosterone; breast-feeding; prolactin; premenopausal women; CYP2D; complementary and alternative medicin; antidepressants;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 7000 women are diagnosed and 1500 women die from breast cancer in Sweden every year. The aim of this thesis was to study the interplay of polymorphisms, hormone levels, lifestyle, and the use of concomitant medication in relation to risk and prognosis in two cohorts: one composed of young healthy women from high-risk breast cancer families and the other of breast cancer patients from the general population.
