1. Quantum Devices from the Assembly of Zero- and One-Dimensional Building Blocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes novel methods for the fabrication of nanometer-scale electronic devices, such as single-electron transistors and resonant tunneling diodes, from wire- and dot-shaped building blocks. The first part of the thesis describes the manipulation of metal nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes using an atomic force microscope. LÄS MER
2. Extending the nuclear cranking model to tilted axis rotation and alternative mean field potentials
Sammanfattning : The nuclear model for three dimensional cranking is extended to include a generalization of the Strutinski renormalization procedure from principal axis cranking to cranking about an tilted axis. A new computer code has been written for realistic, full-scale calculations within the three dimensional cranking model. LÄS MER
3. On the Use of Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: From Theoretical Aspects to Applications in Engines
Sammanfattning : The laser-induced incandescence technique (LII) is a laser-based diagnostic technique for measurements of soot volume fraction and particle size. The technique relies on detection of incandescent light from soot particles heated to around 4000 K using nanosecond laser pulses. LÄS MER
4. Resonant states in modulation-doped heterostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the properties of donors placed inside or outside a heterostructure quantum well (QW). The focus of the investigation has been on the formation of resonant states, which are a hybridization of the discrete localized impurity levels and the continuous two-dimensional QW subbands. 5. Isospin Breaking in Kaon Decays to Pions
Sammanfattning : The five different K -> 3 Pi and the three K -> 2 Pi decays are calculated in Chiral Perturbation Theory. The calculation is done using different approximations, to study whether this changes the result significantly. First the isospin approximation is used. Discrepancies are then found between theory and experiment. LÄS MER
