1. Mitochondrial function in sepsis - Temporal evolvement of respiratory capacity in human blood cells
Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a devastating disease that is caused by the host’s response to an overwhelming infectious process. As sepsis progresses, organs distant from the site of infection become affected and sepsis-induced multiple organ failure ensues. LÄS MER
2. Retinal Transplants: Growth Differentiation Integration Organization and Survival
Sammanfattning : The goal of the study was to get a better understanding of factors controlling the growth, differen-tia-tion, integration, organization and survival of retinal transplants, with the long-term view of eventually developing retinal transplantation into a clinically useful procedure for treating degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa. Embryonic day 15 rabbit retinas were transplanted into adult rabbit eyes and were allowed to survive for various times. LÄS MER
3. Characterization of an Electrical Sensor for Combustion Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The ionization sensor is an electrical probe for diagnostics in internal combustion engines. The combustion process affects the electrical properties of the gas in the cylinder. Thus the sensor signal contains copious information about the conditions in the combustion chamber. LÄS MER
4. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER
5. Homocysteine and Coronary Artery Disease With special Reference to Biochemical Effects Of Vitamin Therapy
Sammanfattning : An elevated plasma level of homocysteine has been suggested as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The objectives of this thesis were to study the influence of renal function on homocysteine levels in patients with coronary artery disease and to explore the association of elevated plasma levels of homocysteine to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction.
