Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis is to explore young women’s lived experience of the body, which, on one hand, is viewed as deviant – the disabled body – and, on the other hand, is viewed as accomplished – the sporting body. The questions posed in the thesis are the following: how do the young women handle the two subject positions that emerge as a result of the perception of them as respectively deviant and accomplished, which forms of femininity are available to them and what are the strategies of resistance they develop. Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to deal with gym culture, specifically what happens at a gym, how the interplay between gyms, body and society is to be understood. The collection of data required for the thesis took place in two different gyms, and in all 62 observations were made and 974 questionnaires were filled in by gym visitors. LÄS MER
9. Different Voices - Different Stories : Communication, identity and meaning among people with acquired brain damage
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of the dissertation is to understand meaning-making practices used by people suffering from acquired brain damage with severe physical and communicative disabilities, in order to create and sustain their identity and personhood in relation to other people. The study emanates from the idea that identity and personhood, also in relation to disability, are created/sustained in ongoing interaction between people in everyday situations, and that the ability to narrate is central to such a creation of identity. 10. "Som en vanlig tjej" : Föreställningar om kropp, funktionalitet och femininitet
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how the body and femininity are constructed by starting from the subjective experiences of 12 young women labelled with an intellectual impairment. The methodological approach is inspired by so-called participatory research. The study combines the concepts of (dis)ability and gender from a sociological perspective. LÄS MER
