    Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the everyday life of the Swedish East India company employees in Canton and Macao 1730–1830. Through a focus on everyday practices, analysed on the basis of ethnicity, class and gender, I show how the Swedes and other foreigners led their everyday life in a constant interplay between adaptation to and transgression of Chinese rules.     Sammanfattning : The thesis focuses upon three universities in Sweden during its ‘Age of Greatness’, Uppsala, Dorpat and Åbo, with a special emphasis upon the universities academic jurisdiction. On the whole the universities saw State intervention as a useful tool in local conflicts with the surrounding town community but opposed that very same form of intervention when it tried to interfere in internal university matters.
