  1. 1. Colon Cancer, Prognosis After Surgery : What Are the Risks of Recurrent Disease, and How Do We Find Those at Risk?

    Författare :Erik Osterman; Tobias Sjöblom; Bengt Glimelius; Lars Karlsson; Mats Hellström; Ismail Gögenur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colon cancer; recurrence risk; prediction model; biomarkers; Oncology; Onkologi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Colon cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide with approximately 1.2 million yearly cases. Developments in the standard of care have improved prognosis. In Paper I the recurrence risk was investigated in a national material consisting of 14,325 colon cancer patients. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The role of CysLT1R in animal models of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Sayeh Savari; Malmö Cellpatologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4) are potent pro-inflammatory lipids derived from arachidonic acid and mediate their effect through CysLT1R and CysLT2R. There is a strong correlation between long-standing inflammatory bowel disease where these pro-inflammatory mediators are abundant and colorectal cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Influence of leukotriene D4 and cyclooxygenase-2 on cell survival

    Författare :Katarina Wikström; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; General pathology; colorectal cancer; inflammation; apoptosis; LTD4; COX-2; patologisk anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : The pro-inflammatory effect of leukotrienes is an important element in the pathogenesis of multiple disorders, including asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). A serious concern for IBD patients is the increased risk of developing colorectal cancer and since there seems to be a general connection between inflammation and cancer we hypothesised that LTD4 induced signalling events could be involved in increasing the tumourgenic potential of cells. 4. 4. Register studies of cancer in the Southern Health Care Region in Sweden

    Författare :Bo Attner; Medicinsk onkologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer risk; epidemiology; incidence; comorbidity; survival; partner; health care costs; population-based register study;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim was to study different aspect of health care use and health care costs on a population based level for persons with cancer and their partners, and from an individual level to explore the impact of comorbidities in incidence and survival. In the beginning of the study all persons in the Southern Health Care Region in Sweden diagnosed with colon, rectal, breast, prostate and lung cancer during the period 2000 to 2005 were identified via the Swedish Cancer Register. 5. 5. Mismatch repair deficiency in colorectal cancer : prognosis and prediction for basic treatment strategies

    Författare :Ioannis Gkekas; Jan Novotny; Karin Strigård; Richard Palmqvist; Ulf Gunnarsson; Christian Sturesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; defective mismatch repair; prognosis and prediction; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant healthcare problem worldwide, being the third most common cancer and the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death. Environmental and dietary factors such as alcohol abuse, cigarette smoking, and genetic predisposition seem to constitute the main aetiologies. LÄS MER
