1. 14C Produced by Nuclear Power Reactors - Generation and Characterization of Gaseous, Liquid and Solid Waste
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results from studies on carbon-14 produced by nuclear power reactors. Radioactive 14C enters the carbon cycle and can be taken up by humans, where it will constitute a potential health hazard. LÄS MER
2. Investigations of temporal changes in climate and the geomagnetic field via high-resolution radiocarbon dating
Sammanfattning : Geological archives have shown periods of abrupt climate change in the relatively stable Holocene epoch (last ca. 11 700 years). One of these periods was around 2800 cal BP. Several records, mainly from Europe, reveal a shift towards wetter, cooler and windier conditions. LÄS MER
3. Protein Dynamics Studied by NMR. Kinetics of the Adipocyte Fatty Acid-Binding Protein and Oligomerisation of the Low Molecular Weight Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase
Sammanfattning : Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) has been used to determine the kinetics of ligand binding to the adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP), as well as the oligomerisation and inter- and intramolecular dynamics of the low molecular weight-protein tyrosine phosphatase (LMW-PTP) in solution. NMR spectroscopy is sensitive to dynamic processes on timescales ranging from picoseconds to days. LÄS MER
4. Quantification Methods for Clinical Studies in Nuclear Medicine - Applications in AMS, PET/CT and SPECT/CT
Sammanfattning : An essential part of the development of new radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic nuclear medicine is the determination of its biokinetic properties. The uptake and turn-over of the radiopharmaceutical in the source organs is of great interest since this could determine whether the radiopharmaceutical would be suitable for clinical use or not. 5. On Health-Related Quality of Life and Diagnostic Improvements in Rhinosinusitis
Sammanfattning : Rhinosinusitis is defined as an inflammatory process involving the mucosa of the nose and one or more of the paranasal sinuses. The aims of the work presented in this thesis were to investigate the degree to which rhinosinusitis affects the health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and to determine whether the diagnosis of this condition can be improved using Doppler ultrasound.
