41. Studies on intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
Sammanfattning : Variability in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters between individuals can be due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this thesis three different areas regarding sources of variability have been investigated. 1. Formulation properties as an extrinsic source of variability. LÄS MER
42. Histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides in rat stomach ECL cells
Sammanfattning : The ECL cells constitute the predominant endocrine cell population of the stomach. They secrete histamine which is a major stimulator of acid secretion. Chormogranin A (CgA)-derived peptides, such as pancreastatin, are co-secreted with histamine. LÄS MER
43. Central nervous system targets for micturition control
Sammanfattning : Normal urine storage and bladder emptying are controlled by the central (CNS) as well as the peripheral nervous system. Dysfunction of these mechanisms can lead to urinary incontinence. Urinary tract dysfunctions have symptomatically been treated mainly with drugs acting peripherally. LÄS MER
44. A study of potassium channel activation as a pharmacological principle for vasodilation of cerebral blood vessels
Sammanfattning : Increasing [K+]o is intimately coupled to progressive ischemia and reduced CBF. In isolated cerebral and mesenteric arteries, it was found that significant differences in the vascular responses to [K+]o exist. Among the species studied, human cerebral arteries were the most sensitive artery to increasing [K+]o. LÄS MER
45. Factors Contributing to Detrusor Overactivity - Obstruction, Hypertrophy and Afferent Nerve Stimulation
Sammanfattning : The consequences of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) with respect to detrusor hypertrophy, structural and functional changes, and obstruction-induced detrusor overactivity were investigated in vivo and in vitro utilizing various animal models. Possible pathophysiological pathways and therapeutic approaches were tested by drug treatment and the use of knockout models. LÄS MER
