  1. 6. Environmental-flow assessments for current and future run-off in a large river system regulated for hydropower production

    Författare :Åsa Widén; Roland Jansson; Birgitta Malm-Renöfält; Michael McClain; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental flows; eco-hydrology; hydropower; river ecosystem; environmental benefits; climate change; collaboration; resource management; Ekologisk reglering; vattenkraft; produktionsoptimering; hydrologi; hydraulik; akvatiskt ekosystem; miljönytta; klimatförändringar; samverkan; vattenresurs management;

    Sammanfattning : In 2019, Sweden implemented legislative changes to renegotiate hydropower permits to both consider environmental rehabilitation and to ensure national supply of hydropower. This means that efforts for environmental rehabilitation of the 2,000 hydropower plants in Sweden need to be considered. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Communication of life cycle assessment results : life cycle key performance indicators

    Författare :Helena Nydahl; Thomas Olofsson; Anders P. Åstrand; Staffan Andersson; Åsa Wahlström; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The global warming that we are on track for will result in a severe loss of natural capital leading to significant losses in economic capital when urban infrastructure is destroyed, agricultural productivity declines and poverty spread among other disasters. Climate change due to emissions does not only affect the polluter, the hazardous effects becomes evident on a global level. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Characterizing Temporal Changes and Inter-Site Correlations in Daily and Sub-Daily Precipitation Extremes

    Författare :Agne Burauskaite-Harju; Anders Grimvall; Marian Scott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Klimatförändringar; matematiska modeller; Statistics; Statistik;

    Sammanfattning : Information on weather extremes is essential for risk awareness in planning of infrastructure and agriculture, and it may also playa key role in our ability to adapt to recurrent or more or less unique extreme events. This thesis reports new statistical methodologies that can aid climate risk assessment under conditions of climate change. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is concerned with how upper secondary students in Sweden develop system geographical knowing through Geography teaching, where complex issues such as climate change are dealt with. In many countries, these issues are particularly relevant for the school subject of Geography since the subject is responsible for issues that involve system changes. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Breaking the ice : effects of ice formation and winter floods on vegetation along streams

    Författare :Lovisa Lind; Christer Nilsson; Christine Weber; Michael Scott; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anchor ice; climate change; in-stream; riparian; river ice; streams; vegetation;

    Sammanfattning : Streams in cold regions are characterized by unique hydrological processes that control flow regime and water levels. One of the most important processes is the formation, growth and melting of different types of ice in and around the stream channel during winter. LÄS MER
