6. Discrete Kinetic Models and Conservation Laws
Sammanfattning : Classical kinetic theory of gases is based on the Boltzmann equation (BE) which describes the evolution of a system of particles undergoing collisions preserving mass, momentum and energy. Discretization methods have been developed on the idea of replacing the original BE by a finite set of nonlinear hyperbolic PDEs corresponding to the densities linked to a suitable finite set of velocities. 7. Classification of Normal Discrete Kinetic Models
Sammanfattning : “In many interesting papers on discrete velocity models (DVMs), authors postulate from the beginning that the finite velocity space with "good" properties is given and only after this step they study the Discrete Boltzmann Equation. Contrary to this approach, our aim is not to study the equation, but to discuss all possible choices of finite phase spaces (sets) satisfying this type of "good" restrictions. LÄS MER
8. Ruthenium-Catalyzed Hydrogen Transfer Reactions : Mechanistic Studies and Chemoenzymatic Dynamic Kinetic Resolutions
Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis lies on transition metal-catalyzed hydrogen transfer reactions. In the first part of the thesis, the mechanism for racemization of sec-alcohols with a ruthenium complex, Ru(CO)2Cl(η5-C5Ph5) was studied. LÄS MER
9. Asymmetric transformation of ß- and γ-functionalized alcohols : Study of combined ruthenium-catalyzed racemization and enzymatic resolution
Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis describes the asymmetric synthesis of β- and γ-amino alcohols through the combination of ruthenium catalyzed racemization and enzymatic kinetic resolution. The dynamic kinetic resolution, DKR, protocol for chlorohydrins was improved by employing Bäckvall’s catalyst, which is a base activated racemization catalyst, in combination with Burkholderia cepacia lipase. 10. Hydro-Kinetic Energy Conversion : Resource and Technology
Sammanfattning : The kinetic energy present in tidal currents and other water courses has long been appreciated as a vast resource of renewable energy. The work presented in this doctoral thesis is devoted to both the characteristics of the hydro-kinetic resource and the technology for energy conversion. LÄS MER
