1. Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies : Internal motions and evolution
Sammanfattning : The study of dwarf galaxies is important in order to better understand the physics of the young universe and how larger galaxies form and evolve. In this work we focus on Blue Compact Galaxies (BCGs) which havemuch enhanced star formation (starbursts), causing blue colours and strong emission line spectra. LÄS MER

3. On the origin and evolution of blue compact galaxies
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the origin and evolution of blue compact galaxies (BCGs). BCGs are low mass galaxies characterised by blue colours, low chemical abundances and high star formation rates. The gas consumtion time scale is considerable shorter than the age of the universe and thus the high star formation rate must be transient. LÄS MER
4. Molecular gas in the galaxy M83 : Its distribution, kinematics, and relation to star formation
Sammanfattning : The barred spiral galaxy M83 (NGC5236) has been observed in the 12CO J=1–0 and J=2–1 millimetre lines with the Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST). The sizes of the CO maps are 100×100, and they cover the entire optical disk. The CO emission is strongly peaked toward the nucleus. LÄS MER
5. Molecular Gas in Seyfert Galaxies
Sammanfattning : In this report we present the results of a single dish study of the molecular gas properties in Seyfert galaxies. From the observations of the closest lying example, the Circinus galaxy, we find that about half of the molecular gas is distributed in a circumnuclear ring orbiting the central super-massive black hole, believed to be powering this type 2 Seyfert.
