6. Calcium Responses in the Renal Afferent Arteriole to Angiotensin II and Norepinephrine Stimulation
Sammanfattning : Studies were performed to investigate the influence of the vasoconstrictors angiotensin II (AII) and norepinephrine (NE) on calcium metabolism in smooth muscle cells of afferent arterioles. Fura-2 and image analysis techniques were used to evaluate calcium responses in the proximal and distal parts of afferent arterioles with attached glomeruli. LÄS MER
7. Biomarkers of acute kidney injury
Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and potentially fatal complication in critically ill patients. The diagnosis relies on functional markers of decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) such as creatinine. Unfortunately, a rise in plasma creatinine lags behind the early structural changes that occur in response to various renal insults. LÄS MER
8. Regulation of Renal Hyaluronan in Water Handling : Studies in vivo and in vitro
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan (HA) is a negatively charged extracellular matrix (ECM) component with water-attracting properties. It is the dominating ECM component in the renal medullary interstitium, where the amount changes in relation to hydration status: it increases during hydration and decreases during dehydration. 9. The Role of Dopamine-Metabolising Enzymes in Renal Sodium Handling. An Experimental Study in vivo
Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) has been shown to act as an intrarenal natriuretic hormone and defects in the renal DA system have been associated with some forms of hypertension. How the DA activity is upregulated durin- increased sodium intake is, however, unknown. LÄS MER
10. Febrile Urinary Tract Infection: P fimbriae, Innate Host Response and Bacteremia
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common human infections, and febrile UTI with bacteremia the most severe form. The relation between bacteria and host decides disease severity. The dominating uropathogen is Escherichia coli (E. coli). LÄS MER
