6. High-resolution Imaging of Cleared and Expanded Kidney Tissue Samples
Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. LÄS MER
7. Prevention and treatment of acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery
Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs frequently after cardiac surgery and is independently associated with increased mortality. The main cause of AKI in these patients is renal ischemia. LÄS MER
8. Cardiac surgery and the kidney - studies on the effects of pharmacological interventions on renal perfusion, filtration and oxygenation
Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) commonly complicates cardiac surgery and is associated with high mortality. Renal ischemia is considered to be the major cause. There is a close association between glomerular filtration rate (GFR), tubular sodium reabsorption and renal oxygen consumption (RVO2) in humans. LÄS MER
9. Cardiac abnormalities in chronic kidney disease
Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem associated with increased risk of mortality and development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality even before the development of ESRD. LÄS MER
10. Biological ageing and kidney transplantation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of biological ageing in patients with chronic kidney disease, the effect of kidney transplantation on biological ageing and longterm outcome in patients with kidney failure. We used the national Swedish renal registry (SNR), ScandiaTransplant´s database YASWA, patient records and different methods to analyze biological ageing and circulatory microbiota to address this aim.
