1. Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry as a Tool for Drug Metabolite Identification in Biological Fluids : With Application to Ketobemidone
Sammanfattning : Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry (MS) in combination with liquid chromatography (LC) is an excellent tool for the identification of drug metabolites. Utilizing this hyphenated technique in combination with proper sample pretreatment, the metabolic pathways of the analgesic drug ketobemidone were investigated in human urine and rat microdialysate from blood and brain. 2. Pain treatment after surgery : With special reference to patient-controlled analgesia, early extubation and the use of paracetamol
Sammanfattning : The introduction of general anaesthesia eliminated pain during surgical operations. After surgery, however, pain and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) have remained a persistent problem for many patients. The need for analgesics varies widely among patients, therefore standardised treatment protocols are often insufficient pain treatment. LÄS MER
3. The effects of growth hormone on opioid-induced toxicity in vitro
Sammanfattning : There is an ongoing opioid crisis in the United States that is portrayed by a large number of opioid-related deaths. Many of these cases involve commonly used prescription opioids, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, and methadone. This is concerning and highlights the problems associated with long-term opioid treatment. LÄS MER

5. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects on opioid administration, morphine and ketobemidone, in the pediatric population
Sammanfattning : Opioids are the mainstay of the treatment of severe nociceptive pain in both children and adults. The studies in this thesis have focused on different aspects of opioid treatment in the pediatric population with special interest in morphine and ketobemidone. LÄS MER
