1. A Novel Route for Construction of Multipurpose Receptors through Chemical Modification of Glutathione Transferases
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes how the human Alpha class glutathione transferase (GST) A1-1 can be reprogrammed either to function as a multipurpose biosensor for detection of small molecule analytes, or as a handle providing for more efficient protein purification.A novel, user-friendly, and efficient method for site-specific introduction of functional groups into the active site of hGST A1-1 is the platform for these achievements. 3. The structures of three bacterial polysaccharides and model studies on oligosaccharides and polyisoprenoids using NMR and FAB-MS
Sammanfattning : Some vicinally branched milk and blood group oligosaccharides were analyzed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in order to investigate NMR chemical shift changes that originate from the branching. These 13C-NMR chemical shift changes were used to calculate NMR spectra of oligo- and polysaccharides using the computer program CASPER. LÄS MER
4. Surface reactivity, stability, and mobility of metal nanoparticles in aqueous solutions : Influence of natural organic matter and implications on particle dispersion preparation
Sammanfattning : The growing development of nanotechnology has resulted in an increased use of nanoparticles (NPs) in various applications ranging from medicine, military, to daily consumer products. There is a concern that NPs can be dispersed into the environment in various ways, for example to air and water during manufacture, use, incineration or recycling of products and thus pose a risk to health and the environment. 5. Fundamental Studies on Molecularly Imprinted Materials
Sammanfattning : The thesis focuses on fundamental studies aimed at elucidating factors that influence molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) formation and ligand recognition. To this end, a series of computational techniques, in particular chemometrics and molecular dynamics (MD) in conjunction with polymer synthesis and physical characterization studies have been employed.
