  1. 1. Regulation and physiological role of tyrosine hydroxylase phosphorylation in the striatum

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience

    Författare :Niklas Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2003]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) catalyses the conversion of tyrosine to DOPA and is the rate- limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of catecholamines, a group of neurotransmitters involved in various brain functions. Short-term regulation of TH activity is achieved by phosphorylation of the protein's regulatory domain at three seryl residues in positions 19, 31 and 40. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and implications in catabolic conditions

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, false

    Författare :Björn Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1997]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the regulation of IGFBP-1 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1), which is one factor regulating the bioavailability of IGF-I with special interest how IGFBP-1 is regulated in vitro and in humans, especially in diabetes and catabolic conditions. The IGFBP-1 cDNA was cloned and used for studies in human hepatoma cells, HepG2, which showed that both insulin and IGF-I could decrease IGFBP-1 in the cell conditioned medium. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modeling the economics of prevention

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Institute of Enviromental Medicine

    Författare :Peter Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; diabetes mellitus; prevention; health economics;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease, particularly coronary heart disease and stroke, is the most common cause of death world wide, with a prevalence that is expected to increase. The consequences of the modern lifestyle such as obesity and physical inactivity are also associated with the risk of developing diabetes, another risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease.
