  1. 1. A study of the cell adhesions molecules, E-cadherin and C-CAM, and the intermediate filaments, nestin, in craniofacial and tooth development

    Författare :Catharina Terling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cell adhesion molecules; epithelial fusion; C-CAM; E-cadherin; junctional epithelium; nestin; odontogenesis; palate;

    Sammanfattning : Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are involved in cell migration, morphogenesis, and cell differentiation within the embryo, and later in the maintenance of the multicellular organism. The aim of the present investigation was to analyze and compare the distribution of the CAMs, E-cadherin and C-CAM, during odontogenesis and palate formation, and furthermore, to analyze the expression of the intermediate filament (IF), nestin, in odontogenesis. 2. 2. Experimental studies on barriers of the esophageal mucosa

    Författare :Nadereh Poorkhalkali; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Esophagus; gastroesophageal reflux disease; glycoconjugates; lectins; esophagitis; basal cell hyperplasia; metaplasia; gastrin; cell kinetics;

    Sammanfattning : Reflux esophagitis is the multifactorial result of the failing of protective barriers and the aggressive assault on the esophageal epithelium by gastric contents entering the esophagus. The three main lines of defense against reflux are: the antireflux barriers, the luminal acid clearance and the epithelium itself. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cell adhesion molecules during odontogenesis and tooth-related diseases

    Författare :Robert Heymann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cell adhesion molecules play essential roles in the development and disease of tooth and oral structures, as well as in the maintenance of adult tissue structure/function. It has been shown that different types of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) play an important part in craniofacial development when ectomesenchymal cells migrate from the neural list to the primitive oral cavity, giving rise to the palatal processes and tooth germs. 4. 4. Cdc42 and Rac1 in Pancreatic Tubulogenesis and Islet Formation

    Författare :Gokul Kesavan; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Tubes form the basic structure of several organs like lungs, kidneys, glandular organs like the pancreas, mammary and salivary glands. Tube formation involves a series of dynamic and interdependent cellular processes, including cytoskeletal reorganization, assembly of intercellular junctional complexes, and cell polarization. 5. 5. Staphylococcus aureus alpha-toxin : natural fragments and effects on intestinal epithelial cells

    Författare :Young-Keun Kwak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus aureus is a human pathogen, commonly found in healthy humans as a part of normal flora. alpha-toxin is thought to be largely responsible for the pathogenesis of the bacterium. LÄS MER
