11. Modelling biomolecular interactions
Sammanfattning : Computational approaches for understanding and aiding in molecular biology has increased in significance over the last decades, where a wealth of biochemical experiments have provided a solid ground for developing computer models that can be used to predict unresolved issues within biology. Molecular dynamics (MD) is one of these methods, based on classical laws, and suitable for handling large macromolecules in their natural environment, water. LÄS MER
12. Adhesion molecules and synapse remodeling during motoneuron regeneration
Sammanfattning : Spinal motoneurons integrate a vast synaptic input and are the final conveyors of motor commands to skeletal muscle. Motoneuron regeneration includes altered contacts between the motoneuron and several other cell types. LÄS MER
13. Spatio-temporal modeling of morphology and gene-expressions during C.elegans embryogenesis using a new imaging framework
Sammanfattning : Many aspects of ontogenesis, the process whereby an organism develops from the fertilized egg to a grown adult, are still poorly understood, despite having been studied since Aristotle's time. The advent of modern biology with the sequencing of entire genomes and mapping of all genes offers the promise that one day we will understand how genes function to regulate cell division and differentiation. 14. Ephrins off the beaten path
Sammanfattning : The Orchestration of cell-cell interactions is crucial to the developing embryo and the adult organism. Intercellular communication is to a large extent controlled by signalling events downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Ligands for RTKs are often soluble and confer long distance information to the receptor expressing cell. LÄS MER
15. Genetic and Ecological Consequences of Fish Releases : With Focus on Supportive Breeding of Brown Trout Salmo trutta and Translocation of European Eel Anguilla anguilla
Sammanfattning : Although the practice of releasing fish into the wild is common in the management and conservation of fish populations, the success of release programmes and the potential harmful genetic and ecological effects that may follow are rarely considered. This thesis focuses on genetic and ecological consequences of fish releases, exemplified by supportive breeding of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and translocation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla).
