  1. 1. An Ultrafast Spectroscopic and Quantum-Chemical Study of the Photochemistry of Bilirubin : Initial Processes in the Phototherapy for Neonatal Jaundice

    Författare :Burkhard Zietz; Tomas Gillbro; Jouko Korppi-Tommola; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bilirubin; Phototherapy; Neonatal Jaundice; Femtosecond Spectroscopy; CASSCF; TD-DFT; Isomerisation Dynamics; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Bilirubin is a degradation product of haem, which is constantly formed in allmammals. Increased levels of bilirubin in humans lead to jaundice, a conditionthat is very common during the first days after birth. This neonataljaundice can routinely be treated by phototherapy without any serious sideeffects. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Delayed cord clamping in Nepal-Evidence for implementation

    Författare :Nisha Rana; Mats Målqvist; Ola Andersson; Ashish KC; Thorkild Tylleskär; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Attitude; Clinical Practice; Ferritin; Haemoglobin; Iron deficiency; Iron deficiency anaemia; Iron status; Jaundice; Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia; Newborn; Neurodevelopment; Randomized controlled trial; Umbilical cord clamping.; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate effects of timing of umbilical cord clamping on newborn health, and on infant outcomes up to 12 months of age in a high-risk population and to explore the context of implementing changed umbilical cord clamping practices in Nepal.A randomised controlled trial with 540 late preterm and term infants born by normal vaginal delivery was set up at a maternity hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. 3. 3. Early life risk factors for schizophrenia - studies of foetal and perinatal complications

    Författare :Christina Dalman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; schizophrenia; mental disorders; obstetric complications; jaundice; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite intensive research for decades the causes of schizophrenia are largely unknown. A major lead in scientific work is the neurodevelopmental hypothesis i.e. a vulnerability for the illness is believed to be caused by developmental defects of the CNS during foetal life or childhood. 4. 4. Inflammatory Reactions in Peritonitis and Malignant Obstructive Jaundice : Clinical and Experimental Studies with Special Emphasis on the Cellular Immune Response

    Författare :Johanna Österberg; Ulf Haglund; Mikael Ljungdahl; Roland Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; CLP; sepsis; peritonitis; bacterial translocation; malignant obstructive jaundice; Linomide; COX inhibitor; SC-236; indometacin; T lymphocyte; macrophage; mucosa; MLN; gut immune cell distribution; mucosal injury; cytokines; TNF-α; IL-6; IL-10; endotoxin; caspase-3; apoptosis; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with peritonitis or malignant obstructive jaundice (HPB+) have an increased morbidity and mortality due to sepsis. An altered cell-mediated immunity in the intestinal mucosa might promote gut barrier failure, increased endotoxin and cytokine release and bacterial translocation (BT) in these conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Severe maternal morbidity in Angola : studies on postpartum haemorrhage, jaundice and clinic-based audit

    Författare :Roland T Strand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Active management of third stage of labour; Angola; audit; jaundice; malaria; hepatitis E; postpartum haemorrhage; uterine rupture; waiting time;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Angola has recently ended a long period of warfare, which has resulted in an almost complete collapse of public health. In Luanda, the capital, some 70,000 deliveries take place in public facilities. Maternal morbidity and mortality is among the highest in the world. Postpartum haemorrhage is the dominant cause of death. LÄS MER
