1. Numerical Computations with Fundamental Solutions
Sammanfattning : Two solution strategies for large, sparse, and structured algebraic systems of equations are considered. The first strategy is to construct efficient preconditioners for iterative solvers. The second is to reduce the sparse algebraic system to a smaller, dense system of equations, which are called the boundary summation equations. LÄS MER
2. Implementation of the spectral element method and iterative solution techniques for 3D controlled-source electromagnetic modelling
Sammanfattning : Controlled-source electromagnetic methods are imaging techniques applied at/on the surface of the Earth which record the electromagnetic field in order to assess the electrical conductivity distribution of the Earth’s subsurface, along with anomalies in this material property, as well as to characterise and interpret structures in Earth’s crust. Extracting information from the recorded electromagnetic data requires inverse modelling algorithms. LÄS MER
3. On Numerical Solution Methods for Block-Structured Discrete Systems
Sammanfattning : The development, analysis, and implementation of efficient methods to solve algebraic systems of equations are main research directions in the field of numerical simulation and are the focus of this thesis. Due to their lesser demands for computer resources, iterative solution methods are the choice to make, when very large scale simulations have to be performed. LÄS MER
4. Iterative solution of Maxwell's equations in frequency domain
Sammanfattning : We have developed an iterative solver for the Moment Method. It computes a matrix–vector product with the multilevel Fast Multipole Method, which makes the method scale with the number of unknowns. The iterative solver is of Block Quasi-Minimum Residual type and can handle several right-hand sides at once. LÄS MER
5. Fast Numerical Techniques for Electromagnetic Problems in Frequency Domain
Sammanfattning : The Method of Moments is a numerical technique for solving electromagnetic problems with integral equations. The method discretizes a surface in three dimensions, which reduces the dimension of the problem with one. A drawback of the method is that it yields a dense system of linear equations. LÄS MER
