  1. 6. Partial vaginismus : definition, symptoms and treatment

    Författare :Maria Engman; Barbro Wijma; Lotti Helström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Partial vaginismus; vulvar vestibulitis; provoked vestibulodynia; electromyography; pelvic floor muscles; burning pain; itch; symptoms; long-term follow-up; cognitive behaviour therapy; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vaginismus is a sexual pain disorder, where spasm of musculature of the outer third of the vagina interferes with intercourse. Vaginismus exists in two forms: total vaginismus, where intercourse is impossible, and the more seldom described partial vaginismus, in which intercourse is possible but painful. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Harnessing the immunoregulatory capacity of single-stranded oligonucleotides to modulate innate immunity

    Författare :Aleksandra Dondalska; Anna-Lena Spetz; Jenny Hallgren Martinsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; single-stranded oligonucleotides; Toll-like receptors; influenza; respiratory syncytial virus; dendritic cell; mast cell; virus infection; inflammation; itch; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : As the first line of defense, the innate immune system is exceptionally efficacious against invading pathogens but must be tightly regulated to avoid immune-related pathogenesis. Accordingly, the innate immune system recognizes highly conserved components associated with infections and damaged cells using a limited number of pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs), which are differentially expressed across cell types. 3. 8. It’s Not Just a Burn : Physical and Psychological Problems after Burns

    Författare :Janina Francisca Aili Low; Bengt Gerdin; Lisa Ekselius; Mats Stridsberg; Per Örtenwall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; Burns; Injury; Trauma; Health Status; Rehabilitation; Outcome Assessment; Personality; Coping; Depression; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; Impact of Event Scale; Nightmares; Pruritus; Itch; Skin; Psychiatric Disorders; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Survival after severe burns has improved in recent decades, but there is limited information on the course of recovery after surviving a burn and on factors that can affect recovery. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the occurrence of physical and psychological problems after burns, and to examine the consequences of psychological problems for the clinical management of burn patients. 4. 9. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Författare :Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Itch and Pain Inhibitory Mechanisms in Humans - evidence for a differential control of nociceptive senses

    Författare :Hans-Jörgen Nilsson; Neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; Human; TENS; Somatosensory; Pruritus; Analgesia; Pain; Nociception; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is known that stimulation of thin nerve afferents can inhibit itch and pain and that the nociceptive systems have a detailed topographical organisation, with subsystems exhibiting specific excitatory and inhibitory receptive fields. On this basis, a new technique was developed, termed Cutaneous Field Stimulation (CFS), that electrically stimulates thin nerve fibers innervating specific skin fields. LÄS MER
