    Sammanfattning : This is a study of pseudo-coordination in Swedish, a common phenomenon in Swedish and other Scandinavian languages, formally a regular verb (phrase) coordination [V1 CONJ V2] but with some special characteristics: the verb in V1 is a) taken from a restricted set of verbs; b) semantically weak; and c) typically contributes aspectual or modal properties to the construction as a whole.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines diasporic narratives of Swedish national belonging among a group of young women of Latin American descent, born and/or raised in Sweden, and adoptees. Based on individual interviews, pair interviews, and focus group discussions with twenty-nine high school girls in the Stockholm region, the study aims to understand how mechanisms of exclusion and inclusion operate through intersecting power structures of race, class, gender, sexuality, and age, in the increasingly multi-ethnic Sweden.     Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this thesis and the four independent studies it builds upon is to examine how categorizations and identity positions are constructed and negotiated in the educational program Swedish for immigrants (SFI) both historically and among participants in the program at the beginning of the 21th century. The analytical focus is on the discourses that frame the development of the SFI program with a specific interest in categorizations and identity in relation to gender, language and national belonging.
