  1. 16. Palaeodiet and Infant Feeding in Coastal Arctic Settlements : Insights from stable isotope analysis of bone and dentine collagen and amino acids

    Författare :Alison Harris; Gunilla Eriksson; Kerstin Lidén; Michelle Alexander; Tamsin O'Connell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Arctic; palaeodiet; Inuit; Yup’ik; infant feeding; domestic dogs; amino acids; collagen; stable isotopes; maintenance activities; gender; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the day-to-day activities that sustained human societies in the arctic and subarctic environments of North America and Siberia over the past 1500 years. Maintenance activities, such as food preparation, childcare, and the care of domestic animals, are commonly inflected by social identity and can provide insight into the experience of gender among archaeological and historical populations. 2. 17. Compound-specific bromine isotope analysis of methyl bromide using GC-multiple collector mass spectrometry

    Författare :Axel Horst; Örjan Gustafsson; David Bastviken; Ulla Sellström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The isotopic composition of ozone depleting methyl halides may provide valuable information on the sources and sinks of these compounds. However, so far mostly stable carbon isotope analysis of methyl chloride and methyl bromide has been attempted. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Method development for isotope analysis of trace and ultra-trace elements in environmental matrices

    Författare :Nicola Pallavicini; Ilia Rodushkin; Johan Ingri; Frank Vanhaecke; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing load of toxic elements entering the ecosystems, as a consequence of anthropogenic processes, has grown public awareness in the last decades, resulting in a great number of studies focusing on pollution sources, transport, distribution, interactions with living organisms and remediation. Physical/chemical processes that drive the uptake, assimilation, compartmentation and translocation of heavy metals in biota has received a great deal of attention recently, since elemental concentrations and isotopic composition in biological matrices can be used as  probes of both natural and anthropogenic sources. 4. 19. Reconstruction of the Southeast Asian hydro-climate using biomarkers and their hydrogen isotopic composition

    Författare :Yamoah Kweku Kyei Afrifa; Rienk Smittenberg; Barbara Wohlfarth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Southeast Asia is characterized by a monsoonal climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. This has great impact on societies, agriculture and infrastructures. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Trans-crustal magma storage in contrasting tectonic settings

    Författare :Harri Geiger; Frances Deegan; Valentin R. Troll; Katharine Cashman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing systems; thermobarometry; oxygen isotope analysis; shallow arc storage systems;

    Sammanfattning : Magmatic plumbing systems comprise magma chambers, sheet intrusions, and conduits which link the Earth’s deep interior with the Earth’s surface. As such, they are the structural framework of magma transport and storage that is governed by complex physical and chemical processes in magma reservoirs and through the interaction of magma bodies with surrounding crustal rocks over timescales from hours to millions of years.
