1. Treatment of arsenic contaminated drinking water from the sources around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara, Tanzania : Removal efficiency of locally available materials, bauxite, gypsum and magnesite
Sammanfattning : In recent years, high arsenic (As) levels of about 300 µg/L have been reported around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara regions within the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in Tanzania. During a sampling campaign at Geita and Mara, the groundwater and surface water samples revealed the presence of high As concentrations as well as Fe and sulfide. LÄS MER
2. Chitosan biopolymer as an adsorbent for drinking water treatment : Investigation on Arsenic and Uranium
Sammanfattning : In many countries over the world (including Sweden), metal toxicity in freshwater resources causes a severe drinking water quality problem and poses a threat to the environment and human health. Among the different toxic metals in the water resources of Sweden, arsenic and uranium are the biggest threats to health. LÄS MER
3. Adsorption of Metallic Ions onto Chitosan : Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies
Sammanfattning : Equilibrium isotherms and the adsorption kinetics of heavy metals onto chitosan were studied experimentally. Chitosan, a biopolymer produced from crustacean shells, has applications in various areas, particularly in drinking water and wastewater treatment due to its ability to remove metallic ions from solutions. 4. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants
Sammanfattning : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. LÄS MER
5. Water diffusion and free volume in hydrophilic polymers
Sammanfattning : During moisture uptake in polymers, the diffusion of the water molecules is believed to occur via unoccupied voids. These voids are called free volume cavities and their sizes are continuously altered when the moisture content in the polymer is enhanced. LÄS MER
