    Sammanfattning : The wide variation in infant maxillary morphology and cleft size of children with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and isolated cleft palate (CP) raise concerns about their possible influences on treatment outcome. The studies in this thesis aimed to investigate the relation between cleft size in infancy and crossbite at 5 years of age (Paper I); the impact of primary surgery on cleft size and maxillary arch dimensions from infancy to 5 years of age (Paper II); associations between cleft size, maxillary arch dimensions and facial growth in both UCLP and CP children (Paper III); and, to evaluate the relation between infant cleft size and nasal airway size and function in adults treated for UCLP (Paper IV). 2. 2. Subjective and objective aspects on living with a cleft. A study focused on the isolated cleft palate and the total bilateral cleft lip and palate

    Författare :Woranuch Chetpakdeechit; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; isolated cleft lip and palate; bilateral cleft lip and palate; social life; additional malformations; dental treatment outcome; esthetic assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: To gain a deeper understanding of the social life aspects in individuals treated for isolated cleft palate (iCP) or total bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP). Furthermore, to study risks of having other birth defects in relation to the length of the iCP. For the BCLP, dental conditions and treatment results were evaluated. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Body dimensions of 2,936 newborns with cleft lip/palate (CLP) were compared with 2,031,140 singleton newborns between 1973 to 1992. The risk of cleft development was found to be associated with intra-uterine growth retardation - the more severe the cleft, the stronger the association. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Application of genetic analyses in studies of syndromic and non-syndromic cleft lip and palate

    Författare :Fung Ki Wong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Linkage analysis; cleft lip; cleft palate; van der Woude syndrome; popliteal pterygium syndrome; hyperthyroidism; candidate gene;

    Sammanfattning : Linkage analysis is one of the first and essential steps in the localization of human disease genes. In this study, the method was first applied in mapping of the disease in two families with isolated hyperparathyroidism (FIHP) to the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor (HPT-JT) syndrome locus at 1q21-q32.
