6. Volatile anesthetic agents and hypoxic ventilatory responses in humans
Sammanfattning : Control of breathing in humans is regulated through a network of different nervous and chemical mechanisms, in the central nervous system as well as in peripheral structures. One important stimulus for this control is the decrease in arterial oxygen tension, PaO2, in blood, which leads to an increased ventilation. LÄS MER
7. Aspects of recovery following day care anaesthesia : A clinical and experimental study
Sammanfattning : A new test for the assessment of psychomotor recovery - the perceptive accuracy test - was designed and tested in a group of volunteers. It was found to be reproducible and not associated with any significant learning. LÄS MER
8. Cardiac surgery and the brain - studies on cerebral blood flow autoregulation and mechanisms of cerebral injury
Sammanfattning : Cardiac surgery and the brain - studies on cerebral blood flow autoregulation and mechanisms of cerebral injury Björn Reinsfelt Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Institute of Clinical Sciences, The Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden Abstract Cerebral dysfunction (CD) occurs frequently after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The main causes of CD are thought to be cerebral hypoperfusion, cerebral microembolisation , cerebral inflammation or disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB). LÄS MER
9. Clinical and laboratory studies on propofol
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery were randomly given total intravenous anaesthesia based on propofol and fentanyl, anaesthesia based on propofol, fentanyl and nitrous oxide or anaesthesia based on isoflurane and fentanyl. Postoperative atelectasis demonstrated by computed tomography of the chest was found to a similar extent and a similar decrease in arterial oxygen pressure was seen in the groups. LÄS MER
10. Anaesthesia and analgesia for surgery in rabbits and rats : a comparison of the effects of different compounds
Sammanfattning : Studies of anaesthesia and analgesia in rats and rabbit were undertaken with the aim to improve anaesthesia techniques, for better animal welfare and research quality. Induction of anaesthesia with the volatile halogenated agents isoflurane, sevoflurane and desflurane was compared in the New Zealand White rabbit. LÄS MER
