11. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs
Sammanfattning : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 12. Studies on the halothane-diethyl-ether azeotrope
Sammanfattning : Requirements for a safe standard for anaesthesia under primitiveconditions differ from those under peaceful circumstances. It is important not to blunt the reflexes that guard vital functions. LÄS MER
13. Sedation with volatile anesthetics in cardiothoracic intensive care unit patients
Sammanfattning : Volatile anaesthetics have been reported to provide protection against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury. This effect has been demonstrated in experimental studies when the volatile anaesthetics were provided either before (preconditioning) or after the ischemic period (postconditioning). LÄS MER
14. Intrinsic and extrinsic protection of the brain
Sammanfattning : The brain is a complex organ and critically dependent on its oxygen metabolism and blood supply. The purpose of the present study was twofold: firstly to design, evaluate, and adopt a physiologically stable experimental model for repeated measurements of cerebral cortical microvascular perfusion by a new laser Doppler technique (experimental part (I) - intrinsic model). 15. Mathematical modelling of clinical applications in fluid therapy
Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis presents a new application of fluid kinetic analysis using mathematical tools to evaluate fluid therapy problems. Several models were developed to mathematically handle fluid distribution concerning bleeding and anaesthesia, arterio-venous differences in plasma dilution, peripheral fluid accumulation and differences in fluid distribution among young and elderly patients.
