  1. 1. Structure determination, thermal stability and catalytic mechanism of hyperthermostable isocitrate dehydrogenases

    Författare :Mikael Karlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :X-ray crystallography; isocitrate dehydrogenase; thermostability; catalytic mechanism;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies on the enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) from the hyperthermophiles Aeropyrum pernix (ApIDH), Thermotoga maritima (TmIDH), Archaeoglobus fulgidus (AfIDH) and Pyrococcus furiosus (PfIDH) are presented. The aim of the described work was to contribute to the understanding of protein thermostability and to study the catalytic mechanism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modeling and investigations of high-grade glioma to understand tumorigenesis and heterogeneity

    Författare :Nagaprathyusha Maturi; Lene Uhrbom; Helena Carén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioblastoma; diffuse pediatric-type high-grade glioma; cell of origin; heterogeneity; serum culture; glioblastoma stem cell; chromatin accessibility; cross-species conservation; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant brain tumor. As per 2021 WHO classification, the corresponding diagnosis in children is called diffuse pediatric-type high-grade glioma (pHGG). In both cases tumors are histone 3 (H3) and isocitrate dehydrogenase 1/2 (IDH1/2) wildtype (wt). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Radiomics in cancer prognosis : applications and limitations of quantitative texture analysis

    Författare :Yi-Hua Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Medical imaging has become an integral part of clinical diagnostics since the discovery of X- rays at the end of the 19th century. Recent advances in computing power have opened up the possibility to extract quantitative data from medical images beyond what is visible to the human eye, so-called radiomics. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Profiling of microglia in inflammation, aging, and the tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Lara Friess; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I aim to present our ongoing efforts to elucidate activation states and how these are regulated in microglia cells. An extensive body of work is dedicated to understanding how these resident immune cells can acquire certain activation states, as their roles are crucial for a great range of functions in the central nervous system – from homeostasis to pathological occurrences. 5. 5. Redox and epigenetic modulators regulate cardiac function and remodeling in health and disease

    Författare :Zaher ElBeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative species are a divergent group of cellular metabolites with a wide variety of functions. Together with reductants, they regulate almost all cellular functions, from mediating cellular communications to catalyzing a variety of biochemical reactions, and further to posttranslationally modifying proteins.
